New Year's Eve; Summer Outfit Ready
Ringing in the New Year on a hot Summer's night
Words by Billy George
2016. Ahhh what a year. It's common consensus that it's been a horrid year. I can't even say why exactly. I mean, the obvious deaths of some of my favourite artists has been hard to deal with. David Bowie was a personal hero to me. I loved his music and disregard for what is considered normal.
On a personal level, I think it's been a hard year, filled with realisations. Especially when it came to my full-time job. I guess some things didn't work out as expected; disappointed, to say the least. But you know what, with all this negativity that 2016 brought about to get locked up and put away for good, I'm looking forward to the sunshine of Summer and what 2017 will bring.
New years eve started off as a wildly humid day. The sun was beating down heavier than the sweat rolling down my forehead. The last couple of days alone have been a struggle, I'm not going to lie. The humidity has been up at the 80% level (more at times). Walking out of the house meant I hit an instant sauna.
The plans for new year's eve was simple. Chill by the pool at a friend's house with a bit of barbecue to keep us well fed. That's exactly what I needed. I'm not one for going out to clubs and drinking my weight anymore so a nice and relaxing event was more on the cards.
Days like this call for a simple and light outfit that breathes well. Something that brings out a bit of class yet is versatile enough to take me from the pool side to the dinner table. Well. Here it is! Swim shorts & a light cotton button up.
As I was sitting by the water, enjoying the cool spray whilst drinking a mojito, I got to thinking. What will be my new year's resolution. I know I know, it's a little corny but it's always good to have a plan of attack. I'm a pretty easy going guy, that takes things as it comes so having an overall idea of what I'd like to achieve is important to me. Previous years have been about health. Well I've got that down pat!
This coming year, will be all about having fun and travelling. I've always had a bit of a fear of travelling alone though I have done it before. Anxiety sucks. But I think this year, I want to spend some time revisiting cities that I have been to and love along with some that have been on the wish list. It's not just that though.
I want to spend more time exploring the country I live in. The Victorian country side is filled with beauty. Going out for weekend trips to hike, campout or even relax in a cabin will be a huge focus for me. From Spring & Summer escapes right through to Winter snow trips will be so fun! I had dinner with some good friends of mine just the other week and this is exactly what we were discussing. It's going to be a good year!
To all those reading this now, I want to take the time to say that I hope that 2017 is kind to you. I wish you all the successes you hope for in life. One thing someone told me the night before really struck a cord. They simply said, "to get out there and find your mark and make it on the world, don't wait."
