When Melbourne's black get's a bit too much, grey it out instead
Words by Billy George
I'm an avid supporter of layers. It's just something about mixing colours, patterns and fabrics together for a three-dimensional feel to an outfit that gets me going. Yet, when I think layers, I tend to piece blues/navy together, or go for an all black look. I'm getting bored of that.
So, sitting in front of my wardrobe with the doors open with nothing but my underwear on, I thought to myself, "What can I do different". Yep. Grey. The greatest benefit of greys is that you can mix in a bit of black without making it too deep, even a pop of colour if you want to (I didn't want to today but you get the gist).
Grabbing my wool trousers, I quickly pulled it all together without too much trouble. A stripped black & white long sleeve to battle the cold worked perfectly with a tall white tee underneath to give a perception of something more to the outfit; that it's not just a top and a bottom. Of course, a wooly grey coat just made this all the much better! The bandana was like the cherry on top of your favourite dessert (mmmm banana split).
